Save Money: Make Your Own Diaper Spray

Chances are, if you are using cloth diapers for your baby, then you are already of the mind to use other eco-friendly options when it comes to baby products.  I’m here to tell you how you can easily make your own diaper spray, using simple ingredients that are Earth-friendly.  You’ll also save a bit of money.  Here we go!

First of all, here are some of the benefits of using your own diaper spray:

  • It’s easy to make and gentle on baby’s skin.
  • Saves you money.
  • Helps to avoid diaper rash.
  • Less waste because you are reusing the same water bottle.

Okay, here’s the Step-By-Step:

  • Get a spray bottle.  You can either buy one, or reuse one from around the house.  If you are reusing, just make sure that you wash it thoroughly.  We want the spray to be pure and simple, and any remnants from some other product won’t do.  Certainly don’t use a bottle from something that may have had harmful chemicals in it.
  • Add 3 cups of distilled water to the bottle or some seperate container that has a tight-fitting lid.
  • Put in a few drops of the essential oil of your liking.  Lavender is a favorite in our house, so we use that.  It seems like a lot of people like lavender oil, but you can try other things for sure.  I highly recommend tea tree oil, as it has properties that help kill bacteria.  So, try 4-5 drops of tea tree oil and 7-8 drops of lavender.
  • Mix well by shaking.
  • If you mixed in a separate container, pour the liquid into your spray bottle.
  • It has been suggested to me to use it once on your baby and wait a while to make sure there is no harmful reaction.  We didn’t do this because we felt confident in these natural products.  Had we seen a reaction we certainly would have looked into the spray as a cause.

I hope this has been helpful.  Keep using those cloth diapers.  And try this out!
